Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great charcoal! My boyfriend Eddie and I tried the Cowboy brand Southern style lump charcoal with oak and hickory. We loved it! We used it in our little 14" round camping grill outside in the back yard. We loaded the grill with the charcoal, lit it up, and listened to the sounds of the charcoal burning. It made a musical, sort of wind chime sound as it burnt. My boyfriend made a video of the charcoals and the sound on his phone, but I'm not sure how I would add it to this review from my phone. I took a few pictures though, so I'll add them to this review. After the charcoals were ready, we grilled steak and fish fillets. It didn't take terribly long. The taste of the steak and fish fillets turned out great! The taste of the smoke in the meat was mild and pleasant, not overpowering and chemical tasting like some of the other brands we've tried. There was less smoke in general than other brands as well. Overall, great product, great taste. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great charcoal that fires up quick and burns long This charcoal easily lights, ignites quick and burns long providing ample amount of time to cook your most precious meats. We used this in a Weber kettle grill and smoked an entire pork shoulder for about 8 hours. The flavor was outstanding and after ignition the charcoal required no maintenance. I recommend this product to anyone who enjoys the charcoal flavor but has yet to find that perfect brick.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Charcoal I used this charcoal for an overnight brisket smoke on a Vision Kamado. I've smoked many briskets and pretty much have it down to where I know where I need to keep the vents to achieve the perfect temp. I loaded up the basket the same as I always do. The charcoal was very easy to light and in no time I had the brisket on and the temps set. I started at around 9pm and checked to make sure everything was good around 1am before hitting the sack. I woke up at 8am and found that the charcoal was all burnt up and the temp was down to 115. Yikes! I've gotten 18 hours out of other brands of charcoal easily and was able to use leftovers for another smoke. Everything was good about this charcoal except the burn time. So while I would use it to grill some burgers or short smokes, i will stick to the charcoal that has worked very well for me for the longer smokes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent for grilling! Used my bag of this charcoal for two things, better for one than the other. For grilling a steak this is about as good a charcoal as you will find. Burns really hot, and imparts a nice charcoal taste tot he meat. When using in my offset smoker, the things that make it good for grilling become a problem in smoking. It burns hot, and burns fast. I had a hard time keeping the temp down in the smoker.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Widely available and a great value. I mostly use briquettes, but if I'm doing short cooks this type of lump charcoal is what I prefer to get cooking a bit faster. No need to wait for the white smoke to clear, that is common with briquettes.

Produced a nice mellow smoke that really gave a nice flavor to the ribs. Burned nice and hot too when I opened up the vents. Great steaks for my second use of the charcoal. Overall I was very happy with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff! The Lump charcoal from cowboy brand is awesome! The only thing that I didn’t like about the product was the bag. With Other charcoal brands the bag will open with the pull of a string, after multiple minutes of trying to figure this out, I eventually just used scissors.... that being said, the product itself was great! We cooked a whole chicken using it and didn’t use any marinade or rub. It was fantastic. I highly recommend trying this stuff!

The coals lit easily and came up to temp fast. I did not use any other wood chips as I wanted to test its own smokey flavor. The oak and hickory combo of this lump coal left a nice and not bitter taste to the pork tenderloin. Nice product!

This charcoal lit quickly and stayed burning for a greater than expected time. And I also soaked some and put it on the lit charcoal and got a wonderful smoke flavor to the chicken without being over powering.

You will have the flavor of a great piece of meat. The charcoal will seat the outside and seal in the juices. Your family and friends will love this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lump charcoal This was perfect for my smoker. It burned consistently and evenly all 12 hours. The flavor it produced was second to none. I highly recommend. My only criticism, and this is just personal preference, would be that the lumps could be a tad bigger.
